Here is a fun rhythm I have used several times on my upcoming album Heptology. It is performed on a Buchla 200e.
We start with a 7/8 rhythm.
A 3-2 polyrhythm is overlaid. The faster "three" of this rhythm contains two notes, and the slower "two" of this rhythm has three notes. This results in a rhythm which repeats every 18 1/8th notes. It can also be thought of as a 18-12 polyrhythm. I got the idea for this rhythm from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp2kwhJokNU
A just intonation scale is used: 1/1, 7/6, 4/3, 7/5, 3/2, 14/9, 7/4. This is a very consonant scale, with many internal consonant intervals. 7/6 is consonant with both 3/2 and 14/9. This is also true for 4/3.
The interval between 3/2 and 14/9 is only 63 cents, which is very close to a quartertone. It is thus a good scale to incorporate a quartertone and be generally consonant.
