The Indiana DNR encourages all new hunters to complete a Hunter Education course, but we understand that some people may need a different starting point. That’s where the Apprentice License comes in. This special license lets hunters temporarily defer Hunter Ed and still get out in the field. It’s a great way to experience hunting and learn hands-on skills before committing to the full course! It's important to note that Apprentice License holders must be directly supervised at all times by a licensed hunter who has completed Hunter Education (or is legally exempt). The Apprentice License is a limited-use license, so be sure to understand the rules before heading out. Watch the video to learn how the Apprentice License works and how to get started.
