The Chinese Broadsword…. This is by far one of my favorite weapons to play with. Most see it as an unrefined weapon commonly used with brute force. I do not completely agree with this statement. There are many uses for the blade of this sword and when compared to other swords like the straight sword or Jian 剑 it has more to offer. Of course this is just one person’s opinion. With the blade of the broadsword you can block with the flat surface closer to the handle of the blade or cut from the tip. Blocking with the blade of the Jian 剑 would only dull it over time. I have played with several versions of the broadsword and have some interesting pieces in my collection. In this video I share a little knowledge of the weapon, some of the different types and the movement associated with the Broadsword 刀.
