One of the most well known and diversified locomotives ever to enter service on the UK rail network is the Brush Type 4, better known by its TOPS designation of Class 47. These locomotives have made it into all walks of life since their introduction in 1962, working services ranging from Cross-Country Passenger services, to East Coast Flagship Trains, to Parcels workings, Heavy Freightliner intermodals and Railway Construction services. Today, the 47 fleet has been cut heavily from its original fleet of 500 locomotives, but can still be found in almost every location or on every railtour around: 1. On the 17th November, West Coast liveried 47237 and BR Blue liveried 47270 'Swift' running a southbound ECS working from Carnforth to Adwick 2. On the 04th December 2011, 47810 leads recently withdrawn classmate 47501 and 37604 through Leyland with a southbound Empty Boat Train from Carlisle to Crewe LNWR 3. On the 20th October, West Coast Liveried Class 47, 47826, and newly reliveried Class 57/6 premier, 57601 lead the Lochs And Glens Statesman out of Warrington Bank Quay bound for Inverness 4. On the 2nd December, former XP64 liveried Class 47, 47853 'Rail Express' and 47828, both looking very smart in their Direct Rail Services livery are seen at Preston hauling the Cruise Saver Express from Southampton Eastern Docks to Glasgow Central 5. On the 1st December, West Coast Railways Class 47s, 47760 and 47854 'Diamond Jubilee' are seen blasting through Church Fenton with the NENTA Tour's 'Yorkshire Christmas Festival' running from North Walsham to Skipton via York 6. On the 14th October 2011, and still wearing its Advenza Freight blue, 47237 pulls up to the red light at Preston before proceeding south with 57601 and a rake of Empty stock in tow bound for Crewe's LNWR depot 7. On the 11th March, 47826 is seen powering southbound from Preston with an evening Statesman from Fort William to Nottingham with a rake of lavish Mark II's and fellow classmate 47786 in tow 8. On the 7th May, West Coast Railway's 47804 is seen departing Preston with an Empty stock working to Carnforth with 57601 dead in tow on the rear 9. Opening up it's throttles and clagging heavily, British Rail Green liveried 47773 is seen powering up with classic horns as it races through with the diesel section of the 'Cumbrian Mountaineer' from Tyseley to Carlisle on the 17th November 10. West Coast's 47826 and 47786 'Roy Castle OBE' pass Preston with an Empty stock movement from Carnforth to Nottingham in preparation for the next days Winter West Highland Statesman to Fort William on the 9th March 11. On the 10th March, West Coast's 47500 is seen detaching from the 'Shap, Settle and Carlisle' tour to allow steam to take over for the remainder of the working 12. After arriving with the 'Roses Express', 47580 'Country of Essex' wearing its fantastic BR Large Logo Blue is seen being detached from the tour to allow LMS 8F 48151 to take over for the remainder of the service to York on the 18th April 13. On the 10th December, West Coast Railway Company's 47804 rumbles slowly through Preston with a friendly spoon whilst hauling an empty stock working from Southall to Carnforth 14. After reversing at York, NENTA Tour's 'Yorkshire Christmas Festival' erupts into life with an ominous black cloud of smoke as it accelerates through the centre road bound for its final destination of Skipton, this time led by West Coast's 47854 'Diamond Jubilee'. 15. After a weekend in Fort William, 47786 'Roy Castle OBE' and 47826 pull into Preston with the southbound Winter West Highland Statesman returning to Wolverhampton on the 4th March Enjoy!!
