The coconut husk chips making
The Foundation of Goodness (FoG) was established in 1999 and has worked extensively following the 2004 tsunami that devastated the lives of thousands of Sri Lankans to develop a one-of-a-kind holistic rural community development model which, in 2022 alone, delivered a wide range of programmes to over 307,000 beneficiaries from 900+ villagers across Sri Lanka, free of charge, via our 30 empowerment activity sectors. FoG has also branched out to offer its key courses and resources to distant rural villages via Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres. The Foundation of Goodness has already established 17 Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres island-wide, with plans currently underway to construct more Centres. These centres strive to empower disadvantaged communities so that they may have equal opportunities to excel in life. As the nerve Centre of the village, the Village Heartbeat concept works to give underserved villagers access to skills that will enable them to develop to their full potential by providing important resources which enable self-empowerment and a better standard of life for the villagers. The Centres provide high-quality facilities rarely available in rural villages, with programmes such as English Language, Computer Training, Planetary Health Education, STEM activities and Dressmaking, offered free of charge and taught by qualified teachers. Overseas volunteers often work with them to develop new classes and skills, which are open to all who wish to attend from the locality. The Centres are also used as a venue for community meetings and events.
