These include figures like Jure Grando of Istria, believed to be the first recorded vampire. Other notable cases include Serbian individuals like Petar Blagojevich and Arnold Paole, and the New England Vampire Panic. Additionally, historical figures like Countess Elizabeth Bathory and Vlad the Impaler have been associated with vampirism due to their cruel and bloodthirsty behavior. Jure Grando: A villager from Istria (modern-day Croatia), Jure Grando is often cited as the first person described as a vampire in historical records. Petar Blagojevich and Arnold Paole: These Serbian individuals, who were investigated for vampirism in the 18th century, became famous cases due to their bodies exhumed showing little decay, despite being believed to have been dead for some time. New England Vampire Panic: In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, tuberculosis was prevalent in New England, and residents believed it was caused by vampires. This led to several cases of exhumed bodies being staked and burned, according to a story on NewEngland.com. Countess Elizabeth Bathory: Known as "The Blood Countess," this Hungarian noblewoman was notorious for her alleged cruelty and torture of servants, which led to her being associated with vampirism, says a post on History.com. Vlad the Impaler: The ruler of Wallachia, Vlad III was known for his brutal methods, which inspired Bram Stoker's fictional character, Dracula, says a post on Reddit. Other Notable Cases: Other figures like Auguste Delagrange in Louisiana, mentioned on Reddit, and the Vampire of Berwick in England, mentioned on Reddit, are also associated with vampirism due to localized folklore and legends.
