In this video, I explain the wavenumber k, where it comes from in quantum mechanics, and why it is *incredibly* useful in solving the Schrodinger equation. In my experience, much of the difficulty in understanding quantum mechanics arises when trying to understand the wavenumber, so I thought it deserved at least one of its own videos.
This is part of my series on semiconductor physics (often called Electronics 1 at university). This is based on the book Semiconductor Physics and Devices by Donald Neamen, as well as the EECS 170A/174 courses taught at UC Irvine.
