The empty seat
I finally took that road we used to dream of The one that leads to the edge of town I thought I’d feel a sense of freedom Driving with the windows rolled down But the city lights feel a little colder When there's no one here to turn to I saw your favorite cafe on the corner The one where we used to waste our time I wonder if you’re sitting there with someone Tracing patterns on a glass of wine Does he know the stories you told me? Or is he just reading between the lines? And I know we’re over but I’ve never felt this way for anyone I’m just a ghost in the driver’s seat, putting my heart to the test I guess the promises we made were just lines in a book you closed Now I’m just driving through the night, where only shadows go Green lights, fast lanes I still see your ghost in the pouring rain Can’t look at the dashboard, I’m calling your name ‘Cause I’m still holding on to the flame! Empty streets, cold breeze I’m still searching for those memories I know we're through, God, I’m on my knees Why is it so hard to find any peace? And I know we’re over but I’ve never felt this way for anyone I’m just a ghost in the driver’s seat, putting my heart to the test I guess the promises we made were just lines in a book you closed Now I’m just driving through the night, where only shadows go Yeah, I’m just driving through the night... alone... Past the life that I used to own.
