*The Erdnase Second Deal* [Second Method] The Push Off Second. The method I use here can be found in the 1902 book The Expert At The Card Table by S.W Erdnase on pages 58-60 or pages 31-33 if you own the Dover edition. Edward Marlo in his book 'Seconds, Centers, Bottoms' teaches a very similar technique for dealing seconds that he called 'Natural Seconds' he also taught this on a video recording from the early 1980's which is flawless! Enjoy Excerpt from the book, The Expert At The Card Table by S.W Erdnase 1902. As the term indicates, second dealing is the process of dealing the second card from the top, and it is employed almost exclusively in connection with marked cards. It is obvious that the dealer will possess a very great advantage by being enabled to reserve for himself, or an ally, any desirable cards as they appear at the top. He need not bother about acquiring skill at blind shuffling, cutting stocking, or any of the other hundred and one ruses known to the profession. Excerpt from the book, Tricks With Cards by Professor Hoffmann 1889. An accomplished card-sharper will, as a tour de force, place a given card, say the ace of spades, on the top of the pack, "second deal" the pack throughout, and leave the ace of spades to the last; and the keenest eye will not notice anything unusual in his manner of dealing.
