You would think it would have been a baker who came up with the first automatic bread-slicing machine, but it wasn't. The first slicing machine was invented by a jeweler, Otto Rohwedder. The first loaf of sliced bread was sold from his friend's bakery in Chillicothe, Missouri, in 1928.
