We introduce the Gamma Function. This is a continuous extension of the factorial function. We show how to extend the function to the whole real line with singularities at the zero and the negative integers. We will see this function arise in our study of exponential distributions, gamma distributions, student t-distributions, and beta distributions. It also arises in complex analysis and number theory to name two of many other fields in which it is used.
