A viral claim has spread across the internet for nearly two decades: physicists, it says, found computer code buried in the cosmic microwave background, the oldest light in the universe. The claim is wrong in its popular form, but the reality behind it is stranger and harder to dismiss. This documentary opens the evidence file on the cosmic microwave background itself, mapped to extraordinary precision by three successive satellites - COBE in 1989, WMAP in 2001, and Planck in 2009 - and traces what those missions actually measured: blackbody temperatures to within a few millikelvin, anisotropies at one part in 100,000, and a harmonic structure of acoustic peaks frozen into the sky 380,000 years after the beginning. The exploration then turns to the genuine source of the "code" story, the work of theoretical physicist S. James Gates on Adinkra graphs in one-dimensional supersymmetry, and the unexpected finding that these diagrams correspond to doubly even error-correcting codes of the kind used in modern data transmission.
