Epicyon haydeni was the largest dog to ever walk the earth. Heavier than a gorilla, longer than a lion, and armed with bone-crushing jaws that no modern canid can match. For seven million years it dominated Miocene North America as an apex predator. But Epicyon and its entire subfamily, the borophagines, were wiped out — not by a disaster, but by cats.
