The Noun Complement: #12a The Name Complement
In this video, I explain what a "NAME Complement" is. The Name Complement is one of my grammar innovations, and though it is only an ancillary concept, I still believe it is worth investigating. Here are some key points to keep in mind: *A Proper Name qualifies as a Proper Noun. *A Name Complement is always a Noun Complement because a Proper NAME is always a Proper Noun. *A Name itself CAN indeed be a Complement, but the Name itself is NOT always a Name Complement. That is, a Name CAN complement a NON-name word. *The following can qualify as Name Complements: Prepositional Phrase; Distinction Phrase/Clause; Common Noun; Proper Noun; Adjective (see video #12b for a detailed explanation). In this video, the FOUR Applications shown under the Base Form "Noun" are NOT the "refined" selection that appear in videos following this one. In later videos, the Applications for Base Form #5-Noun, are as follows: 5.1- Common Noun complements Common Noun 5.2- Common Noun complements Proper Noun 5.3- Proper Noun complement Common Noun 5.4- Proper Noun complements Proper Noun By the time you get to video #14b (Ten Applications), you will see that there are MANY ways to "classify & organize" Noun Complements; the above versions are only a few of the many.
