The Peritoneum
This video explains the Peritoneum by using illustrations, models, animations, and explanations on a cadaver. The developmental basis of the peritoneum has also been discussed along with the process of zygosis to understand why some parts of the gastrointestinal tract are intraperitoneal, extraperitoneal, and retroperitoneal. The differentiating points between mesentery, ligament, omentum, and recess are also discussed. The epiploic foramen is explained with the help of illustrations as well as it is also shown on a cadaver along with its boundaries. The role of paracolic gutters in the spread of abdominal infections is also discussed. The significance of Morrison's pouch is also emphasized in this video. Please feel free to suggest ideas for future videos and to provide your feedback. In the age of information overload and the ever-decreasing attention spans of our students, traditional didactic lectures are no longer a practical means for the delivery of information. Keeping this in mind, I wanted to create short and precise anatomy videos to encourage students to learn in their own time, at their own pace. That is where this YouTube channel comes in. The videos on this channel will range from those utilizing cadaveric dissection and both plastinated and plastic models to those involving drawings of anatomical structures and slideshow presentations.
