The Retro Shack - Theme Tune

An original composition / production for The @TheRetroShack Youtube channel. The brief from Scott (the channel owner) was for me to create a short intro music track, something with an 80s ElectroPop vibe and iconic feel that reflected his channel. I chose a BPM of 102, which is a moderate tempo that is neither fast nor slow, and provides a relaxed, positive, and balanced feel. This tempo also matches the channel's previous intro music which meant the new track would fit with existing titles and graphics sequences. I decided upon a simple AB structure, and came up with 2 simple 4 bar progressions on the keyboard. Next I started production with some drums and arpeggios (played manually), then added some analogue bass, 80s style pads and iconic sounding synth brass stabs. The tools I used for this project include: • Steinberg Cubase 14 Pro • Native Instruments Battery 4 • ReFX Nexus 5 • Steinberg Retrologue 2. As a child of the 80s in the UK, I fondly remember the era of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Commodore C64 and the BBC Micro B computers, and Scott's channel provides an interesting, nostalgic and educational look into the technology of my youth, and much more.
