The Sky Is Falling
The Sky is Falling is the culmination performance of a year of community and relationship building among Voice Project artists, including alumni of the program. Early conversations about thematic and social justice topics for the collaborative artist-devised work resulted in a resounding focus on climate justice. For many people, there is a deep visceral fear as temperatures rise, fires burn, and our political leaders continue to take minimal steps towards the actions that are urgently needed. As Voice Project artists shared these fears and anxieties they also wrestled with the idea of hope, both questioning the concept and finding nuggets of self-defined hope through the idea of coalition building and calls to action, adding to the message to humanity to take action now. We invite you to join us in experiencing the range of human emotions in response to climate change as we extend our call to action so that we can build towards hope together. “Hope locates itself in the premises that we don’t know what will happen and that in the spaciousness of uncertainty is room to act. When you recognize uncertainty, you recognize that you may be able to influence the outcomes–you alone or you in concert with a few dozen or several million others.” - Rebecca Solnit
