THE STRANGER
THE STRANGER Verse 1 There is a stranger at my dinner table I watch him closely and try to say little I can barely eat I’d like to reach out and touch him but we’re not friends I am afraid i might offend him if i say much or ask too much There are painful moments of silence I wonder what he’s thinking then He says the food is good but doesn’t eat much He doesn’t look me in the eye But I stare at him I know he wants to flee, i want to keep him longer One wrong word and he’ll be gone for good The dinner is awkward but I would do it again and again In the past, he filled my life with happy memories then disappeared And the misery began He means more to me than I mean to him I sit there, my heart breaks and rejoices coz of this stranger But he doesn’t know it Verse 2 The stranger at my dinner table now says he’s happy He doesn’t look happy He wants to share details about his lifestyle Details i’d rather not know He doesn’t overshare though, he knows we can’t agree And it’s what caused the strangeness between us He’s mine after all I birthed and raised him I don’t know if i did everything right at the dinner table I hope my tone was alright, my manner and posture were okay I hope my measured words were tolerable Bcoz if they were not, I may not look at this stranger’s face again And i love the face deeply for it’s been years since I’ve seen it Chorus The stranger I love is home I hope he stays close Let all the strangeness go The stranger I love is home
