The Triple Tray Impression

In dentistry, we have a lot of ways to take impressions so we can make crowns, bridges, implant crowns, and other things for patients. This video presents a method using an item that we call a triple tray. It is a very convenient way to take impressions for crowns and perhaps bridges (not quite as recommended for bridges). All it requires is a repeatable and stable bite by the patient into a specially designed tray upon which we have distributed impression material on both opposing sides. Again, it is very convenient and easy to use, however one major disadvantage is the slight flimsiness and resultant potential for distortion, especially if trying to capture an impression of the last tooth in the patient’s arch for a crown or end abutment for a bridge. Stock or custom trays are recommended for these. Another possible consideration is the cost, though that’s far less of a concern.
