Things to avoid 2
Summary – Things to Avoid (James Chapter 4) James chapter 4 exposes the root of outward conflict — the inward war of the flesh. Quarrels and conflicts are not primarily caused by people around us, but by unsubmitted desires within us. When selfish pleasures, pride, envy, and ambition rule the heart, relationships break down and prayer becomes ineffective. James teaches that lust is craving what God has not given. Envy is resenting what someone else has. Murder is not only physical — it includes hatred, slander, gossip, and bitterness in the heart. These are works of the flesh that destroy character and unity. He warns that some believers do not receive from God because they either do not ask, or they ask with wrong motives — wanting blessings to feed selfish desires rather than glorify God. God does not finance the flesh. Calling them “adulteresses,” James speaks of spiritual unfaithfulness — believers aligning themselves with the world’s system instead of remaining loyal to God. Friendship with the world means adopting its values: pride, self-exaltation, rebellion, image over character, pleasure over holiness. To conform to the world is to position yourself in opposition to God. Yet, even after exposing sin, James gives hope: God gives greater grace. Grace is stronger than lust. Grace is stronger than pride. Grace is stronger than worldliness. But there is a condition: God resists the proud — He opposes arrogance, self-sufficiency, and stubbornness. He gives grace to the humble — those who repent quickly, receive correction, submit to God, and deny themselves. The battle is internal before it is external. Victory begins with humility. #James4 #GreaterGrace #DenyTheFlesh #SpiritualMaturity #HumilityBeforeGod #DoNotLoveTheWorld #CharacterDevelopment #RenewYourMind
