The anchor is another foundational skating mechanic we build on inside the Downhil Skating System. While the corkscrew is the primary foundational movement, the anchor plays a huge role in lateral control, deception, and directional changes. The anchor is a short edge drag driven by heel pressure. You lift the toe, drag the heel, and change direction through the heel anchoring into the ice while c-cutting with the other skate. The key is staying relaxed. If the leg gets tight, you lose shin angle, press the toe into the ice, and kill the mechanic. Just like skiing, the edge works best when the body stays loose. Compared to a soft drag, the anchor creates a shorter, tighter turn. You’ll slow down more, but gain the ability to make moves in tight spaces. Soft drags carry more speed; anchors trade speed for control. As you progress, anchors can be layered into: 1) Corkscrew → anchor combinations. 2) Zigzag patterns. 3) Anchor stops (commonly used on breakaways). One of the best combinations is anchoring off your knob-side foot and soft-dragging on your blade-side foot which is the most natural flow we see from top NHLers. As always, focus on relaxed shoulders, hand in the Crosby crevice, strong heel pressure and shin angle. This is how top NHL players steer their body laterally and create deception. Film it, compare it to elite players, get feedback, and keep progressing. _______________ Start your Train 2.0 Free Training and learn the Downhill Skating System pillars here: https://train2point0.thinkific.com/courses/free-training Skip ahead and check out the Train 2.0+ entire unified player development system here: https://app.train2point0.com/bundles/membership-plus Visit us on home ice at our website for more details about Train 2.0 Hockey https://www.train2point0.com/ _______________ Check out our other Socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/train2point0/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/train2point0 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/train2point0/ YouTube Video URL: https://youtu.be/Ua9vW1JHKbA #train2point0 #downhillskating #hockeytraining #NHL
