This Simple Drawing Process Always Works

Drawing from imagination is one of the most common challenges artists face. Most can study anatomy and watch tutorials for years but still struggle to know where to start when facing a blank page without reference. This video breaks down a simple, reliable three-stage process for drawing anything from imagination: proportion first, mass second, form third. Proportion means placing markers and measuring before drawing anything. Mass means roughing in physical shapes to bridge the gap between a proportional skeleton and actual drawing. Form means building detail in stages (big to small): primary forms first, secondary forms second, and fine details last. Key concepts include why proportion errors doom everything built on top of them, the drumstick metaphor for understanding how mass relates to proportion, and why jumping ahead to detail is the single biggest cause of failed imagination drawings.
