Time Machine - Dana Point
After completing the video on San Clemente’s history, I decided to follow up with a bit more about Dana Point and Capistrano Beach….actually, both were unincorporated cities in Orange county until 1989, when the City of Dana Point was incorporated, also annexing the area including what was Capistrano Beach. I don’t know about you…..but I still call Capo Beach, Capo Beach…..and Dana Point, Dana Point. My family’s history with Dana Point goes back to the late 20’s and early 30’s. Both my mom and dad visited this area in the early 30’s. My mom drove down from Crestline with her parents and took lots of 16mm home movies of the local area. My dad came down to visit his uncle that was leasing some land from the Forster’s to graze his cattle. About 30 years after that, my parents would move my brother Malcolm and I down to San Clemente in 1962. My brother and I spent our childhood scouring the beaches and tidepools around Dana Point and Princess Point until the harbor changed the landscape forever.
