In this video I am demonstrating how to practice toe spreading in sitting and standing. This exercise is great for strengthening the arches of the feet and creating better stability of the leg in weight bearing. Instructions: 1) Stand or sit in a tall, neutral spine posture. Place your bare foot on the ground fully flat with heel directly under the knee. 2) Keeping your foot flat on the ground slowly spread all 5 toes apart. Make sure to keep your foot tripod balanced as you spread your toes (equal weight between big toe, pinky toe, and center of heel). 3) Hold for the prescribed amount of time. Repeat exercise as prescribed by your physical therapist. TIPS: -Make sure to keep your foot flat on the floor during the toe spreading. Do not let your heel or ball of foot leave the ground during. -You should feel the exercise working the arch of the foot or around the mid foot region -To make this harder, perform in standing or in single leg balance. -To make this easier, perform in sitting or with foot off of the ground.
