Hello Guy's... Today I going to explain about basic shearing tool design calculation. There are several software & tools are available in market to design the tools but if you know there calculations then you can make your own calculator for tool design. First of all we need to know the load required for cutting. In normal terms it is called shearing force or required tonnage. Shearing force is product of profile constant, Cutting length Thickness & Shear strength. Shear strength is mostly considered as 75%~90% of the tensile strength which is depending upon the material. It is very important because from die plate thickness we need to calculate the all other calculations It is denoted as Td Now we need to calculate the Thickness of punch holder plate which is denoted as TP .For That we need Td which is Die Plate Thickness Now we need to calculate the Thickness of bottom bolster plate denoted as TBB . For That we need Td which is Die Plate Thickness Now we need to calculate the Thickness of TOP bolster plate which is denoted as TTB. For That we need Td which is Die Plate Thickness Now we need to calculate the Thickness of stripper plate which is denoted as Ts. For That we need again Td which is Die Plate Thickness Lets Take an example to calculate all these equations Where Material Is Mild Steel, having shear strength 22KG/MM square & Thickness is 2mm As we see in picture There are 2 holes & 1 Slot to cut …… so we need to calculate the total length of cutting Pie D is circumference of hole so for cutting length of hole is 2 X Pie X Diameter 31.4 and for slot is size of 20 X 5mm So cutting length of slot is 2 X (20+5) = 50 Total Cutting length is 81.4 In all calculation we saw that all equation are derived form die plate thickness and Die plate thickness is derived by using Shearing Force. We need to take care of the units we are using in calculation otherwise it will lead to wrong tool design.
