The knee is the joint connecting the femur, the tibia and the patella. Knee osteoarthritis is caused by the wear and tear of the cartilage where these three components articulate. To resolve this, total knee replacement consists in removing the areas of worn bone and cartilage, whilst maintaining the integrity of the muscles, tendons and ligaments in this zone. Following the operation, the knee recovers mobility and the pain is eliminated. Carried out using a minimally invasive approach, it spares the quadriceps, the main muscle in the knee, and facilitates recovery.
