Tracking Drive Management

Being able to fine tune the drive level in the dog while tracking is key. Too much drive you get mistakes; over shooting corners and articles, too fast, casting, speeding up after corners etc. Too much control, the dog might not have enough in the tank to keep tracking when’s it’s difficult. The biggest thing for me is the dogs working independently and they gain confidence through successful problem solving and repetitions. People get too worked up on the dog in “Drive”but overdo it and make their dog out of control. This track there’s no food for 20ish paces to an article. I’m starting to teach the trial picture. You’ve got to teach the dog to track no food to minimum 100 paces to first article.
