Training multiple dogs while doing everyday chores
So many people tell me they "don't have enough time" to train their dogs. Yes, training does take specific time set aside to just that task, but the thing is there are also MANY times that you can multi-task, especially once your dogs have learned the basics. In this example, I have 5 dogs out on Place, practicing duration work as well as ignoring distractions. My living room was a mess, so as I went back and forth picking up toys and then later with the vacuum, the dogs were all working on remaining on Place and ignoring me (and the vacuum!). Each of these dogs have varying levels of training. Some of these guys were pretty fresh and new to holding the command with distractions. Some of them have done TONS of work like this, making this particular situation a piece of cake--but still important to continue practicing on a regular basis, so that it continues to be a piece of cake! Training doesn't ever stop. You don't ever hit an "end". Training is what we reinforce every day on a regular basis, which is why you want to get good at multi-tasking--and really, if you are practicing this daily, it doesn't even feel like multi-tasking anymore. For YOU, it can become a piece of cake!
