Transcontinental Dash 2026
Transcontinental Dash ’26 is a high-energy Australian trucking anthem celebrating the East–West fast freight tradition, the drivers who lived it, and the modern tribute run by Highland Haulage featuring two legendary rigs from the golden era of 1980s interstate linehaul. Written by Howard Shanks, this driving country rock and rockin’ blues track follows the real-life Transcontinental Dash 2026 as the convoy heads west out of Melbourne behind two iconic machines – Krystal Dreams, the 1986 Ford LTL 9000, and the mighty Mack Muncher Kenworth LT28 with the original KAA1 van. From Port Wakefield roadside dramas and lightning tyre changes to chicken parmies on the fly, Maxibond icecreams at Border Village and UHF banter rolling across the Ninety Mile Straight, the song captures the humour, pressure and camaraderie that defined the fast freight era and continues to inspire today’s long-haul drivers. Featuring characters and moments from the run – Micky, Markas, Fingers, Twistie, Doddy, Tommy, Bradmore, Robbo and more – the track blends old-school highway spirit with modern Australian trucking culture, preserving the stories and atmosphere of the linehaul legends who helped build the nation’s freight network. Includes a classic style UHF call-up straight from the highway: “You pair must be the coolest cats rollin’ through tonight.” Produced as part of the Transcontinental Dash ’26 documentary series by Roadtrains.com.au.
