Transference & countertransference: what counts?
This video explains transference and countertransference in simple terms, and focuses on what feelings and behaviors fall under these labels. It was prompted by an online discussion about whether everything the patient says is transference. I argue that this isn't a useful way to look at it. I did another video introduction to transference and countertransference, with an emphasis on seeing similar reactions in everyday life (not just in therapy sessions): https://youtu.be/eKvRWrA_jAQ?si=9CMLlHUX3_RAY90G Dr. Reidbord is a practicing psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and psychiatric educator with eons of experience. 🦕 "More Than Meds" debunks oversimplified or misleading messages about therapy and psychiatry, and explains complex mental health concepts in accessible ways.
