Electrons have been used effectively for imaging and spectroscopy for the last several decades. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) played a significant role in studying nanomaterials. Very short wavelengths of electrons, compared to light, allow achieving high resolutions in electron microscopes at high magnifications. Inelastic scattered electrons, X-rays and visible light produced in electron microscope can be analysed to understand the chemistry of materials. In this talk, I will present electron-mater interaction as well as basics of imaging and spectroscopy of nanomaterials through transmission electron microscopy with appropriate examples.
