Traumatic

Reeling from the trauma of a life-changing accident, a damaged couple escape to the countryside where they quickly regret their newfound vulnerability. Drama short horror film starring Callan Gallacher and Catriona Fraser. ‘Traumatic’ tells the story of couple: James and Anne. A car crash caused by James recently left Anne paralysed from the waist down. Not long after her initial recovery the two of them decide to escape to the countryside for a few nights before returning to try and tackle their now changed lives. Upon arriving their relationship shows signs of strain and as the cracks begin to grow a haunting force stalks the couple, seemingly empowered by their emotional distance caused by their traumatic accident. - ‘Traumatic’ was only possible thanks to the extremely hard work of the cast and crew – shooting long hours into the night. With many complex setups to tackle the enthusiasm and passion of those involved really shone through. As our final project as BA Hons students from Napier University, we wanted to work on a film that we found interesting and would enjoy making. ‘Traumatic’ allowed us to do this and it let us play around many creative ideas as this was a horror. This was the largest student crew we had brought together for one of our own projects and working with a larger crew had been something we’d wanted to do for a while. This allowed each member of the team to focus on their individual role and bring their best to the table as a result. The film was shot before the recent COVID-19 lockdown but the quarantine did greatly affect the editing process. It drastically slowed things down and forced us to find effective ways of managing our workflow as well as communicating effectively. Through trial and error and the persistent hard work of all those involved in the post-production process, we managed to put the film together in time for our deadline. Unfortunately, by working online our footage quality was greatly compressed and reduced. Due to these issues, we will be finishing a final edit post lockdown with full quality footage and audio as well as smoothing off any rough edges we didn’t have time for during the edit as we’ll be able to meet up to work on the project files in person and communicate far more effectively in detail.
