Crape myrtle bark scale can weaken your trees and turn them black. There is an easy and long-lasting way to get rid of them. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper and Mike Dennison show how to use a soil drench to treat Crape Myrtle Bark Scale. The plant they are treating is covered with the scale. First, they discuss the history of the crape myrtle bark scale in the United States. They are using the systemic insecticide imidacloprid. They measure the circumference of each stem at the four-foot height and after doing some math they mix the imidacloprid concentrate in a gallon of water and pour it on the ground around the crape myrtle. It may take several months for the imidacloprid to start killing the scale, but it will be effective for about one year after application. 0:00 - Introduction 0:19 - About Crape Myrtle Bark Scale 2:01 - How to Treat 2:47 - Measuring Trunk Diameters 5:03 - Doing the Math 5:25 - Mixing the Imidacloprid 7:05 - Pouring the Drench *You can get the drench here:* (Amazon affiliate link) BioAdvanced 12-Month Tree and Shrub Protect: https://amzn.to/4bWenyP Here are some other videos about crape myrtles: Q&A – How do you remove black sooty mold from crape myrtle bark?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYn1Nl0HcqY Pruning (Not Murdering) Crape Myrtle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxLnmB7tJCo Q&A - I cut down my crape myrtle.
