Trigger fish in Gibraltar. What do we know about this fish? The “Trigger” Mechanism
Their name comes from a special spine system on the top of their back:
The first dorsal spine can lock upright.
A second smaller spine acts like a trigger that releases the first spine.
When threatened, the fish wedges itself into a crevice and locks the spine upright so predators can’t pull it out. 🪨
