Trillium Forge: Camping forge
Hi there, It's been a little while, and I don't have things sorted out at my new location to start blacksmithing at full scale again yet, but I wanted to put this one out for fun. On a recent camping trip I wanted to try making a forge out of a piece of old pipe and an air pump, using a hole in the ground as the fire pot. I've seen something similar done in small villages in Africa and India, usually withsome kind of air bag as a blower. The pump reminded me of the Japanese style box blowers, and because it's two way it can give continuous air flow. I was surprised at how well this worked, and I think if I had more charcoal (I cleaned out the fire pits from about a dozen other campsites to get what little I had) and a bigger fire bowl, I could have gotten to a welding heat. I put a little update at the end of the video, but basically I don't have my forge setup at my workshop's new location yet, but hopefully by the fall I'll be able to start working there. I'm hoping I can make a few videos here and there, but once my regular setup is available I'm hoping to have videos coming out a bit more regularly. Thanks for watching! Sean
