in 2016 I acquired a large pile of dirt when a neighbor had a pool installed. I used some of the dirt, but a lot of it has many rocks in it, but there's some topsoil mixed in. I first made a flat bed sifter, but it was hard to move the dirt around. I then went to Youtube and saw a few different trommels out there. So I took some ideas from a few of the videos and went to work. My design centered around the wheel barrow and the tractor cart. This meant the cylinder had to be around 36" long. Tractor supply store sells fine mesh wire in different lengths but luckily one roll was 36"x60". This was perfect for my build. I wanted 1" holes in order to allow some rocks to pass through, but could not find a strong enough wire that would allow this and one that wasn't hard to work with. some little pebbles pass through and that seemed to have been a good choice. The areas that i leveled are not soggy like i thought they would be with too much fine dirt and grass grew over the spots. The Trommel is fairly easy to build, hopefully this video can help you build your own.
