Most artists throw away their best ideas at the thumbnail stage, but in this real-time field session I’ll show you how to sketch big boss creatures using the rough doodles you already have in your sketchbook, and how to choose one strong thumbnail and build the final design directly on top of it instead of starting a brand new drawing. You’ll see how I spot a “boss-worthy” thumbnail, add structure and believable weight to a loose sketch, push scale and silhouette for maximum impact, and layer in detail without killing the original energy that made the idea work in the first place.
