http://www.facebook.com/theorthobox Welcome back to YOU Can beatbox. Today we're learning the bongo drums, sounding a little bit like this. The bongo drum sound is an offshoot of the typical click sound and I learned it from a beatboxer named En.dru. Whether you make the original click sound when entertaining infants, beatboxing to drop it like its hot or just because your have oral ADD, you've probably made this sound before. So once you can do the click sound by itself, you're only a few simple steps away from the bongo sound, and here are those steps. The click sound is made of two components: your tongue releasing from the roof of your mouth causing this noise [demo] and then your tongue hitting the bottom of your mouth [demo]. This second sound by itself is the bongo drum and switch mouth positions, you get the true bongo sound [demo] but we'll get into that later. Because the bongo sound is only the second part of that click, the theory behind it is to simply flick your tongue forward so that the only sound you hear is it striking your lower palate. This sound is really awkward when you first learn it, because instead of just flicking your tongue forward, you'll end up moving your entire head. This might be a little embarrassing but after a few days that will go away, but your friends might too. All joking aside, it might look weird but just keep at it and your be able to make this sound and look normal. So once your have the flicking down, you can open up the back of your throat to get a deeper, more inhuman sound. its the difference between closed [demo] and open [demo] so use which ever you like better. And here are the two practice beats. 1) metronome hi lo lo lo x2 2) B L Pf L x2 And two other quick notes. First of all, because of the use of your tongue for this sound, that means that its very difficult to do fast bongo and hi hat rhythms or any other sounds that use your tongue, so just remember that. And also, if you do choose to have your throat closed to get the high version of this sound, you'll be able to do this sound while breathing because you're only using your tongue power and not any lung air, which isn't true if you have your throat open. That's all for this sound I know it might have gotten a little detail oriented. Dont forget to comment below with any and all questions you have and clickity clack on that like button to show your support. This has been YOU Can Beatbox, next time we'll be learning the zipper sound.
