Two Idiots Build A DIY Workbench / Table for FREE!!
See how we built our DIY table / workbench with zero knowledge in just FOUR WEEKS! Woodwork is tricky but we managed to do it for FREE! We had been breaking down pallets to use in our pallet wall (which you can see in the background of this video). Luckily the same place we sourced them, we managed to grab a bunch of random shapes and sizes of wood too! ALL FOR FREE!! We used 18 of these identical shaped pieces of wood to create our workbench / table. As you can see, cutting these things straight and square without the use of a mitre saw was not the easiest of tasks for two noobs. We managed it though, got everything cut to size and began the sanding process. Den thought this would take a hour or so, six hours later he wanted to cry! Turns out sanding is a very long, dusty, slow process, but we did it! We then thought, we have all this nice sanded wood, how the hell do we attach it all together. The easiest way would be with a bunch of metal brackets or extra pieces of wood screwed in from every angle going, but that wouldn't look nice at all. We decided on using dowels and wood glue in the hope everything would be easy and strong enough. 160 something drill holes later and the dowels were sorted, all made easier using a dowling jig which we fully recommend to everyone who wants to give this a go. Then it was time for the wood glue! This stuff is fully dry in 20-30 minutes, which means you only have 10 or so minutes to mess about with each piece. When you've never used this stuff before, things can get a bit hectic! Glue up is done and everything is now dry. Turns out wood glue alone would of been strong enough due to doing our research AFTERWOODS! The glue is actually stronger than the wood you're applying it too, if you try to break it apart, the wood will snap before the glue is even bothered about it. The more you know! Still, we're glad we have a super strong table in the end. Now it was time to assemble the table top, legs and shelves together. We didn't have much of an idea how to attach it all, so this time we went for the extra pieces of wood plan, stick a bunch of screws in and jobs done! It was a bit wobbly so we doubled up on the screws, I think we used over a hundred in the end, but it's damn solid! There you go.. How to build a table with zero knowledge in just FOUR WEEKS!
