U01-1: Basic Computing Elements of a Hypothetical Machine Architecture
In this video I cover some fundamental concepts that all computer science should have an understanding of before embarking on a study of operating system. In particular I look at the basic elements of a stored program computer, the CPU, primary memory, I/O devices and the bus. But in particular I discuss the fundamental fetch/execute instruction cycle that all stored computers implement at their basic level. In this video I go over several examples of simulating the fetch/execute cycle by hand for a simple hypothetical machine architecture.
