👉Today I’m giving the caravan a serious tech upgrade. The old NCE single DIN head unit has served its time, but let’s be honest — it’s outdated, clunky, and about as smart as a brick. Step 1 — Removing the Old NCE Unit First job: get the old NCE single DIN mount out. It’s a pretty straightforward pull out, but like most caravan installs, nothing is ever as simple as it looks. Once the screws are out, the unit slides forward and reveals the usual spaghetti of wiring behind it. I disconnect the power, speakers, and antenna, and clear the space for the new system. Step 2 — Prepping for the ESSGOO Smart Screen Now this is where the fun begins. The ESSGOO unit is still single DIN, but the retractable touchscreen means I need to check clearance, angle, and how far the screen will extend once it powers up. Caravans aren’t built like cars — cabinetry, doors, and overhead cupboards can all get in the way — so I test fit the unit before committing. Once I’m happy with the position, I start adapting the wiring. The ESSGOO uses standard ISO plugs, so I match power, ground, ACC, speakers, and antenna. If your caravan wiring is older, you might need to tidy things up or add connectors to make it clean and reliable. Step 3 — Sliding in the New Unit With the wiring sorted, the ESSGOO slides into the old single DIN cavity perfectly. I secure it, power it up, and the moment the screen glides out… the whole caravan instantly feels more modern. It’s like going from a flip phone to a smartphone in one upgrade.
