UMD CPSE | Team SneakSync

Sponsored by the University of Maryland, A. James Clark School of Engineering, SneakSync seeks to help athletes who rely on data from wearables like Fitbits but dislike wearing wrist-based devices. Originally intended as a Fitbit replacement, SneakSync has evolved into a smart insole system for advanced foot pressure and gait analysis. SneakSync integrates smartwatch-like features with an array of pressure sensors embedded beneath the insole of a running shoe (adaptable to fit any size). It transmits real-time data to a mobile app, allowing users to monitor their performance without wearing anything on their wrist. The insole is made from EVA, neoprene, and memory foam, with a nylon lining and perforations for airflow. It includes three pressure sensors to track force and step count, and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to track speed, acceleration, and gait dynamics.
