Unicode ICU4X 2022
*EVENT:* Overview of Internationalization & Unicode Projects *DATE:* September 28, 2022 *DESCRIPTION* There is a trend towards smaller, more mobile devices, and they bring tight constraints on the resource sizes they can support. Shane demonstrates the significant progress that ICU4X has made towards reaching its goal of operating in resource-constrained environments. ICU4X has made available its version 1.0 release in September 2022. As new programming languages and new devices continue to be created, the problem of not having new, easy solutions for good internationalization grows, too. Despite the audacious scope of the problem, ICU4X is proactively addressing the problem so that implementing internationalization best practices can be easily achieved anywhere. *BIO* Shane Carr is a Senior Software Engineer in internationalization. He is the chair of the ECMA-402 subcommittee for JavaScript internationalization standards and is a core contributor to the ICU and ICU4X projects. His work has focused on locale data, number formatting, and performance optimization. Additionally in ICU4X, he has designed a modular data loading interface, as well as contributed to API design for other components. He is the Chair of the ICU4X Subcommittee. *LINKS* Technical Quick Start Guide: https://home.unicode.org/technical-quick-start-guide/ Become a Unicode Member: https://home.unicode.org/membership/membership-levels/ Support Unicode: https://home.unicode.org/support-unicode/ Unicode Website: https://home.unicode.org
