The older I get, the more I tend to write songs about things I want my kids, and at this point my one grandchild, to hear. They seem more simple, like advice I'd give sitting with them by my tailgate under the carport. Picking up a different instrument helps with the creative process as well and this song was written on my tenor banjo, which is the instrument I've been picking up the most lately. I've had the first verse for a while. The second verse came as I was driving to visit my niece in the hospital, who had just had a freak accident with her horse. She's doing great by the way...thanks for asking. And I should also say...she doesn't blame the horse. The chorus was literally just filler words to give me something to sing with that melody, but I decided to keep them as they worked with the overall theme of simple advice. Last verse came right before I wanted to record it on my phone's voice memos to work on it later. But then I just decided to keep it short and sweet. Probably the first song I've even written that can be sung under 3 minutes.
