Recording of a workshop from the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center at Purchase College SUNY, as part of summer programming for our faculty.
Workshop description:
Kerry Manzo, Visiting Professor of Literature, will host two workshops on remote teaching. This is a great opportunity to learn new approaches from a colleague who has used them often in classes similar to many of our own.
In this session, attendees will be introduced to a method of adapting the Shared Inquiry (Socratic discussion) method for the virtual classroom. Attendees will learn: 1) how to develop questions of interpretation to stimulate discussion; 2) how to manage “on the same page” discussions in virtual environments; 3) how to use response templates to strengthen student writing and reflection; and 4) how to use course Google documents and course Wikis to move the discussion beyond the circle.
