Using the language we see everyday to support learning
Webinar: Linguistic Landscapes as a pedagogical resource in English language classrooms Recorded in June 2022 In this session, Osman Solmaz shares the concept of Linguistic Landscapes (LL) and provides a pedagogical framework to assist teachers to incorporate LL into English language classrooms. The concept of LL signifies the language surrounding us in forms of words, images, murals, or graffiti in public and/or private spaces. LL has the potential to be a valuable pedagogical resource since they are everywhere, they often reflect sociocultural and linguistic diversity of a community; exemplify symbols and signs featuring language play; and provide everyday examples of the presence of English language in non-English settings. Given the potential of LL, the ultimate goal of this webinar is to provide practical information about the introduction and implementation of Linguistic Landscape-centred activities in English language classrooms in a systematic way.
