https://www.commtank.com/services/residential/tank-remediation-ma.php On March 25, under contract with the Executor for the Estate for this property in Framingham, Massachusetts, CommTank removed a 500-gallon underground storage tank (UST) containing home heating oil located beneath the kitchen floor of the property. The property is developed with a single-family residence. Based on the conditions observed by CommTank, the Framingham Fire Department and results from field screening, a soil sample was taken from the excavation pit bottom (PB) and submitted to a state-certified analytical laboratory for extractable petroleum hydrocarbon (EPH) analysis. Headspace readings of Total Volatile Organic Vapor (TVOV) concentrations of 88ppmv from the excavation (PB) were recorded. No other TVOV concentrations were recorded. On March 29, CommTank received the analytical laboratory results indicating that the soil sample PB had EPH compounds detected in concentrations that exceed MADEP Reportable Concentrations for S-1 category soil (RCS-1). Based on the analytical laboratory results the Executor for the Estate contracted CommTank to conduct a subsurface investigation for further assessment. Based on the results of the subsurface investigation conducted on April 3 a soil sample (SB3 (6’-8’) was submitted to a state certified laboratory for EPH analysis. On April 11, 2013 CommTank received the analytical laboratory results indicating that the soil sample SB3 (6’-8’) had EPH compounds detected in concentrations that exceed MADEP Reportable Concentrations for S-1 category soil (RCS-1). Based on the analytical laboratory results the property owner contracted CommTank to conduct a Release Abatement Measure (RAM) consisting of the excavation, transportation and disposal of up to fifty tons of petroleum-contaminated soil (PCS) and 2,500-gallons of oily water.
