One of the joys of paleontology is the detective work of figuring out "who-done-it" such as why there was an extinction. We all want the fossil record to show us what really happened. We can help ourselves a lot by recognizing that even bolt-from -the-blue events like meteor impacts tend to look gradual and slow in the geologic record. How can that be?
