What started as a practical solution for another business has quickly grown into a new opportunity for farmers across Manitoba and beyond. Lynne Melvin, president of Vantage Drones Canada, says the idea came from hands-on experimentation while working in water remediation. “We saw the opportunity to actually use these agri drones to do our work,” she says. “We did some testing and realized this is a great product. There could be a business built around this.” That realization led to the launch of Vantage Drones Canada – a company focused on drone sales, service and training, with a strong emphasis on agriculture and industrial applications. While drones themselves are not new, the Melvins say their approach sets them apart. “We’re big on the education part,” says Eric Melvin, VP of operations. “There are places where you can just go and buy drones, but we want to make sure you’re successful with it.” That includes hands-on training tailored to real-world use.
