Veneers - Lapointe dental centres
A veneer is a porcelain coating partially or entirely covering the visible part of the front tooth. It can be used to conceal certain unaesthetic defects such as colour, texture, shape, internal stains or even the position of the tooth. Veneers can be an efficient, inexpensive and very aesthetic solution. If you should choose veneers as a means of embellishing your smile, your dentist will offer you the choice between two types of materials: direct resin or porcelain. Resin is a solution that is usually less expensive, but also less durable. Its main advantage is its rapid result. A single treatment is sufficient to do the job. The result depends on the artistic aptitude of the person doing the work and on the complexity of the modifications. These materials have their limit. Porcelain is the second solution. It has the advantage of being much more durable and has a stable colour. However it must be done in several steps. In the first place, the teeth to be coated must be ground down by removing a thin slice of enamel. Then, an impression of the mouth must be taken to allow the laboratory to manufacture the veneer to measure. While waiting for the delivery of a porcelain veneer, your dentist will make a temporary veneer. A final visit will be necessary to remove the temporary veneer and replace it with the porcelain veneer, which will be cemented in place. Veneers are an efficient means to transform an ordinary smile into an extraordinary smile.
